 Photos from a 30YO camera
« Thread Started on Apr 16, 2009, 4:34am »

Bored with digital?
Sick of point and shot film cameras?

Check out some of my photos from a 30YO fully manual, fully mechanical (no electronics, no batteries) medium format (negative size 68mm x 56mm) film camera. :o

BTW the camera is huge and weighs like 3KGs++, not something easy to walk around with, not something I'd use for gigs either. But maybe if you guy's tour Japan I can do a photo shoot with it!

Only 10 photos per roll of film though and you have to change films in subdued lighting. But the good thing is you can buy extra film holders for like $100 each so you can load up a few before a shoot, currently I only have one film holder for it though :-[

With Medium Format it depends on how the type of camera how many shots per roll. The smallest size is the 645 cameras the negative size is 56mm x 45mm with that one you get about 16 shots per roll. Then there's the 6x6 cameras (most common) 56mm x 56mm, with it you get 12 shots per roll. The 67 size 56mm x 68mm gives 10 shots per roll. The 69 size 56mm x 86mm gives 8 shots per roll. This with a 120 roll of film.
There also are the rarer 220 rolls, but I need a bigger film holder for that one. It gives 32 shots on 645 sized cameras, 24 shots on 6x6 cameras, 20 shots on 67 sized cameras, and 16 shots on a 69 sized camera.

If anyone is out there I've posted some B&W (real not converted) photos I took with the Mamiya recently:- http://jamri.smugmug.com/gallery/7918081_CNdJ3#612522779_kzbmJ

3 more colour photos added, this time I used Fuji Reala "ACE" 100 film, which is probably the best colour negative film I've used. Reversal (aka positive or slide film) is even better, but still don't have enough confidence with the Mamiya to try Reversal, because the exposure has to be spot on unlike negatives which have a lot of flexibility in exposure. I have shot reversal on my F80, but that's only a 35mm camera, and has a very accurate built in light meter. One day once I'm confident in nailing the exposures with the Mamiya (hand held light meter, no auto exposure), I look forward to getting back 68mm x 56mm reversals from the lab.
