 Recording tips 101......
« Thread Started on Oct 8, 2009, 5:32am »

1. NEVER, NEVER EVER EQ two instruments the same way on the board. This will cause a frequency battle between the two tracks and one will fight to be heard over the other.

2. When you go to mixdown you final track, always keep in mind that when you EQ: you can't ADD something to the mix that isn't there to begin with.

3. The bass guitar is called a bass for a reason, it is your BOTTOM END, not your 6 string guitar.

4. Always do a rough mix in mono to get the levels set right, then pan the tracks out.

5. To be consistent with you rhythm tone, always cut your rhythm guitar tracks using the same guitar and amp head but set the EQ levels different on the board.

6. Mid range frequencies on your guitar tracks = good thing. Mid Range scoop = no more bass guitar can be heard on the overall track. What do you think fills up those frequencies? Not your guitar, unless you hate having the bass heard.

7. The object of EQ RMS volume is not to destroy the listeners hearing but to make sure the song dynamics stay intact and peak below negative twelve decibels.

8. mastering: if you don't know how to do it or what it is, please, have someone else do it for you that actually knows what they're doing.

feel free to add your tips.

The word is very confrontational and controversial and over the years I think we've all become jaded as to what the world thinks about us and we've changed the way we preach and watered down the word a lot in order to suit their [non believer] views and not God's.
