Encryptor-Encryption 1999-2006
Released-2006
Label-Alcance Subterraneo Productions
Genre-Death/Grind
Wow, another Encryptor re release and I would have to say this one kicks the crap outta the Cryptic Works CD. Alcance Subterraneo Productions from Mexico has really put a lot of cash into bringing these aging recordings back to life. Like Cryptic Works this disc is a compilation of Encryptor's two albums Drowning In Flesh and Sermon Decay. This time around though a few tracks were taken off the record to give it more of a single album feel. The sound restoration job is really amazing. These recordings sound 200% better than those found on the originals and Cryptic Works. As far as packaging goes, this is the best looking Encryptor disc ever released. The cover artwork if professionally done and there is a full multipage insert featuring pictures and lyrics. This is also not released on a CD-r but on an actual factory pressed disc.
If youve never heard Encryptor before there are a few things you need to be warned. This is not top 40 radio pop, this is not even underground pop. This is 15 tracks of brutal death metal that might kill you if you are not prepared for it. That being said lets move on to the actual review. Ill warn you right now the production on the first eight songs has improved greatly from the originals, but in all honestly some of them still sound downright horrible, the most prime examples would be Prophecy of Infinity and Portal of Demonic Torment. On these songs the ultra deep guttaral vox are really hard to hear and the music sounds like noise. Some parts of these songs have added guitar parts here and there to improve the quaility. The songs are brutal for the most part but some of the first eight tend to get boring from simple monotonous repetition. Some songs begin to sound the same. Once you get to the last six songs everything starts improving. If you were following along in the booklet till now you can forget it after this. You will not be able to keep up with the ultra deep death/vomit vocals of Phil Diez. This is actually a big downer for me though since I cannot follow along in the linear notes. What does improve here is the sound quality. No more jumping back and forth between songs, now there is a constant production level on the disc. The six songs from Sermon Decay will tear you limb from limb. Save for only a couple of extremely short melodic parts this is pretty much straight brutality. Not for everyone. Although these songs have the advantage of being much more interesting than the first eight. There is a lot more variation in the riffing and alot more changes. Sometimes the drum beat gets lost for a second or two, but other than that the music accomplishes its goal. Like I said before, music like this is not for everyone. To the fans of brutal styles, the only real downside to anything Encryptor is sometimes things start blurring together and youll swear youve heard a given riff before on a couple of songs. Also the last song featured on this CD is a brand new Encryptor song called He Was Beheaded and has a significant boost in production quality. This song is more in line with the Sermon Decay songs and is extremely brutal with ultra sick vocals.
Lyrically Encryptor has been and always will be about ministry. You can read them all for yourself at www.encryptoronline.com
Overall the best release of Encryptor material ever. I just want new material next time
