With Blood Comes Cleansing-Golgotha
Released-2006
Label-Blood and Ink Records
Style-Metalcore/Death Metal
"This is the place of the skull where terror reigned, the crucifixion in agony and pain" is the line that starts off WBCC's debut album on Blood and Ink Records. Its already quite apparent from their name and album name that WBCC is a band with one thing on their mind, Jesus. I must say it has been quite a while since I have heard such Christ honoring lyrics come from a metalcore band. Now lets see how well the music stacks up.
WBCC plays an interesting mixture of death metal and modern metalcore. Somehow they have crafted a fairly brutal sound out of this. This little 25 minute bomb of energy focuses on brutality and breakdowns, with the occasional melodeath moments thrown in. To be honest though, the only really death metal thing about the band is the ultra sick and gutteral vocals. Their vocalist screams, shrieks, growls and squeals all the way through the nine songs without letting out one clean shout or emo whine. You can expect 100% harsh vocalization from this release, which to be honest is a welcome change. The band is very tight and creates a very enjoyable experience overall. The only downer is that alot of the songs run together and the whole album sometimes just plays out like one 25 minute song. Oh, and next time around they could lay off the breakdowns a bit, as they are quite overdone on this release, and if im only getting 25 minutes of music, I don't want 13 minutes of it to be breakdowns.
As I said before the lyrics of this band are very Christ focused. WBCC is not one for metaphors or deep hidden meanings. Most of the lyrics deal with everyday struggles and how Christ can help overcome them. A good deal of the lyrics are taken directly from scripture, so the band's message stays clear throughout.
Overall I'd say this is a great debut for the band, just next time around I'd like to see a bit more innovation and variation within the songs. Standout tracks are Golgotha, My Help, and Take Everything.
