What in your opinion is the heaviest sound youve ever come up with from tuning. In other words what tuning gives you the heaviest sound with out it sounding to muddy 7 strings included. Ill start i think B on a seven string i have never had more succes than with a straight B on a 7

My guitar is currently tuned down to Bb. Its a 6 string. When its ran through a distortion pedal, it sounds brilliant... some of the time, when i manage to get all the settings right.
I've got it that low as I've been learning some early Paramaecium songs, and on the first two albums Jason was tuned to Bb on his 6 string. On Time to Mourn, Ian was tuned to B.

Think of it this way, The guitar is only one octave above the bass. So how good does a bass sound when you put it through distortion? Personally, the lowest tuning I can stand is B, maybe Bb on a good day. I don't think, though, that tuning has anything to do with how heavy you are.

yeh tru its tone really but sucessful tuning for a tone can make you heavier theres a fine line between muddy and heavy however

It really made a difference.

i tune to E, Eb and D and even B, for me, can't get that natural heaviness as a standard tuned guitar. I found that I really have to use a lot of EQ to clean up the sound when tuning any lower than D.

stand by Ibanez nothing plays like a ibanez 7. and nothing ever will come close to matching their quality in craftsmanship or sound. They are the originators of the 7 string revolution over 20 years ago.

I prefer playing in standard...I can get a decent nice heavy tone out of it, get a lil Opethy with the playing. The lowest I've ever played is probably C# standard which Sabbath used on Master of Reality til Heaven and Hell. It's the lowest I'll go cause after that you're almost sacrificing melody for heaviness.

It's the lowest I'll go cause after that you're almost sacrificing melody for heaviness. agreed, but I will add that the tone of any guitar gets very muddy below that point of C# and needs massive EQ in order to sound like a guitar again....wasn't that why we have bass guitars and bass guitarists, in order to give the sound of the band the heaviness it so greatly needs?

So no playing any Paramaecium them Indeed no...again as much as I LOVE heavy, brutal, and crushing music and guitars...playing wise it's not for me. I'm hoping to start a band with some friends in the vein of what In Exordium is doing...but we're going to stick with the C# tuning I mentioned just to be different from you're generic Brutal band does and detune the strings till they hang around your knees. Plus we want to have a tad more melody but not be like Gothenburg sounding or melodic Death Metal

I'm hoping to start a band with some friends in the vein of what In Exordium is doing Hope this goes well. I'm planning to start up a doom/death band in the veins of Paramaecium/Mortification eventually. I've got plenty of lyrics, and even some art sketches, but I want my guitar skills to improve a bit more first. I've currently got one of my guitars down at Bb, and the other just in standard E, as its nice and easy for Church music
