I would like to know what your thoughts are on doing things in the "NAME OF JESUS" as to what does this mean to you?and more importantly what is the Bible actually saying when it refers to "THE NAME OF JESUS?"
I will begin with sharing two scriptures.
Colossians 3:v17 (New King James) " And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him."
Some denominations/believers consider it essential that when you pray that at the end of your prayer it is essential to say "in Jesus name we pray" based on the colossions scripture above.
Now the question i pose is do you think this is necessary considering in Matthew7:v22-23 (New King James) it says " Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’"
Clearly doing things or saying things in Jesus name does not necessarily mean you are a saved Christian so therefore if you are a Christian who does not verbally say "IN JESUS NAME WE/I PRAY" are you disobeying scripture? or like myself do you think saying it literally is not what was intended but what is in your heart?
My view is that Christ knows who are his and who ain't so therefore based on this God knows your heart and motives regardless as to whether you say "IN JESUS NAME OR NOT" as it is a personal conviction choice not a salvation or evidence of salvation issue.I believe the Colossions scripture is referring to the heart and not the mouth.
***I do however see merit in saying IN JESUS NAME when praying over the sick or deliverances(casting out demons) for example.***
I know of Churches/Believers who are adamant it is essential to verbally say "IN JESUS NAME" whenever a prayer is uttered.***As long as you begin your prayer addressing Jesus then essentially this is praying in Jesus name in any case.***
I would love to hear your thoughts on this as if i am wrong and anybody can prove it scripturally then i am open to re-evaluate my position on this.
Blessings.
