Welp, according to Zao's myspace and their recent layout update, Zao is alive and kicking and getting ready to record a new album! There isn't any details about it besides the interview from Jan 2007 that states they're still going to record new albums and lay off on the touring thing.
And for some reason I listened to every Zao album i had last night (70 songs) which are all the ones with Dan Weyandt on them.
That's alotsa Zao!

Meh I wasn't big into Parade of Chaos but the newest album "Fear is What Keeps Us Here" Is PHENOMENAL best stuff they've done in a LONG time plus their best drumming period...so hopefully Gretz will be back behind the drums and I can see them here again.

It appears that Gretz is doing the drums on the new album so thats a big plus. Honestly though I still think Jessie Smith was their best drummer despite him being a huge jerk as a person he was a great drummer.

I love Jesse's drumming...very original, just from when I"ve seen them with Jesse...he was VERY inconsistent, a lot of improve but not like good improve, almost like he'd change the whole mood of the song. I mean still awesome drummer and very original but as far as just sheer ability and keeping up I think Gretz has done amazing and will give the band much more stability behind the set...heck he gave Zao their first blastbeat.

I still prefer the drummer of Funeral of God. My favorite line up right there.

Meh the drumming on FoG is just sooo slow. Like it holds a LOT of the songs back IMO. Though has some of their better bass work. I'm still not a fan of that album...lots of good songs just doesn't flow right with me. My favorite was Liberate for the LONGEST time but the newest is def my fav overall.

For me, Funeral of God was the first album where i was truly able to get into and love every song on the record. All their other albums had at least one song I didn't really enjoy listening to. That and the execution of concept on the album is amazing.
