I know it might of been asked before, but I thought I would just ask anyway as peoples tastes change.
What/Who else do you listen to besides metal?
I like to listen to jazz every now and then...no artists in particular. I really like the old Seattle grunge rock sound. Bands like early Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots, Alice In Chains, Mad Season...etc.
Other stuff I like is Stevesacre, Further Seems Forever, Mars Ill(awesome hiphop duo), Portishead, Pearl Jam, Sufjan Stevens, Bob Dylan, Michael Knott, some Dido, The Middle East(real good local band), some Larry Norman, Credence Clearwater Revival.

I have rather strange tastes. First love was punk rock, which I still listen to.
Besides this, I also like listening to light jazz, classical, blues.... basically anything, really.
I'm slowly getting into rap through Public Enemy and Run DMC, who I think are/were really good and influential not just in the rap sense, but also to music (there would probably be no bands like RATM if it weren't for songs like Bring the Noize and Run DMC's version of Walk This Way IMHO)
Bob Dylan is pretty cool, along with Neil Young, who I also love. Also, through my dad, I got a liking for the Beatles, as well as artists like the Moody Blues, Creedance, and so on.
Although I usually don't admit to it, I secretly also enjoy a little bit of "Radio-Pop" (things like Kelly Clarkson and what-have-you. Not a fan of the artists, but some of the songs are pretty good).
Also, through my bro, I'm beginning to appreciate a little bit of Drum N Bass stuff.

besides metal i listen to my cat whine, it's just as annoying as rap only without horribly produced music behind it LOL
on a lighter note I listen to nothing but classical when I don't listen to metal..

I really like hardcore and metalcore. I enjoy indie bands as well, and good doses of alternative rock.

what composers do you like? Bach is my absolute fave composer and after that it goes Grieg, Chopin & Stravinsky. as for Choral stuff Carmina Burana by Carl Orff is brilliant choral piece and Bach's St. John's Passion is a great opera. no one will ever find a Mozart album in my collection because his stuff is so happy it literally gets me wanting to kill myself.

Mozart? Happy? You've got to be kidding? Well some of it is, but he lived an absolutely miserable life.

I like grunge and hard rock; also a lot of the stuff that many people dispute as being "original heavy metal."
Top 10 non-metal bands would be (not in order):
Bush Pearl Jam Nirvana U2 Aerosmith Led Zeppelin The Doors Smashing Pumpkins AC/DC GNR

yeah that would be low on the list. Suffice to say there are a few bands there where I only bought their "best-of" to save listening to all the b-sides.

i started off with classical interests, then went soft metal/hard rock,(stryper petra whitecross shout angelica early on) some poppy rock like whiteheart amy grant margaret becker etc then started to get into real metal like believer, tourniquet, mortification deliverance, betrayal, (years later; early rageflower, grave forsaken, scourged flesh) etc, then picked up some alternative things like scaterd few, mad at the world etc hardcore/metalcore like POD demon hunter, underoath etc and industrial faster dance like argyle park/ap2,mindbender/erinfall,mortal, late rageflower then more drum n bass techno like prodigal sons, paradigm shift, mindbender, sozo, nitro praise etc plus classical still like bond for example ....Nathan Taskers music is good lyrically like shannon Noll, some of Lee Hardings work...(my wifes influence)
still like em all...and usually can find something on the radio ok... just depends on the mood...lyrics and intensity of music r big for me...
i like some of the songs from nirvana, smashing pumpkins, accadacca, gnr but dont trust the lyrics, so not keen on buying...U2 is good though...

To be honest, the only music that I willingly subject myself to is metal, metal and more metal. I can tolerate other forms of music when I'm at work, in friends cars or whatever, but whenever the choice of music is mine, its metal all the way. When I'm at work though and choosing a new CD to play in store and Living Sacrifice isn't an option I generally go for bands like the Newsboys, Toby Mac, and Chris Tomlin (whose worship song 'Indescribable' is actually pretty good).

I cant help it, my heart beats in breakdowns, maybe I should visit my doctor Actually Ill be more into hardcore when it blows over again. I think the hardcore scene is a bit too oversaturated at the present time.

Both for their songs and their stance.
