I think it's between the individual and God. Me, if I was old enough, I'd get inked.

There's a verse against getting tattoos in Leviticus, but it's ceremonial law. That's gone.
I think if you are getting a tattoo just to look cool, that is vain and also not very wise. If you want a tattoo of a cross on your wrist or something to remind yourself of who you belong to, I'm sure that's just dandy with God.

what I think is ....It is not a bad thing, always you remind not glorify it or just not being vain with it, or proud or make fun of your friends cause you are the only one with the tattoo,, just remind yourself that you are christian and act as though.. Maybe I'll get one too or a piercing too

tatoos are pure evil. end of story. jk :-D
but seriously, i think they're fine. i told my mom once that the most i'd ever want to get would be a small cross on my wrist to remind me of what Christ did for me, and she started crying. she thinks they're the dirtiest thing you can do to yourself. (i know, i know, thats wrong, you don't have to give examples of dirtier things)

What I think is that a church that reject you just for have long hair or a tattoo or a piercing is a Legalist Church, and don't think of the now modernity but, they are just as the time they lived, Everything is good always when you don't walk away the will of God.. I don't see evil thing in a Christian Tattoo.. Do You??

That's where you get into the old "our house, our rules". And if you think about that, it's not that unreasonable seeing as how they've only fed and cared for you your whole life. Wait till you leave is what I'd say.

He thinks that getting a tattoo is a sin against himself and God, but then again my parents think that long hair, black t-shirts and metal music is evil as well. I just don't get it. Same my house the exception is that they don't even care if I get a tattoo or not. MOst of the people in my church thinks metal is evil, and I think that sucks!

My mother has decided that whatever I decide to do to my body is my choice. But she has ruled against my lip piercing... which saddens me. I planned on getting that for a while...
But I see nothing wrong at all with tattoos. People will argue that "you body is a temple" and that you shouldn't defile the temple. But even the temples had paintings and other art to make them beautiful and to give them meaning and to display their message to other people. Where words fail, art succeeds.
"A picture is worth a thousand words."

I thought about a tatoo. Not a very big one, but at least not til I move out so i'm not really thinking about it til then. I wanted to get my nose pierced for a while. My parents said no, but the real reason I started not wanting one was because this girl that was really mean to me in grade school has one. I saw her in church and she totally just blew me off and everything. Now they all remind me of her and her VERY hypocritical attitude.

I've got a tattoo on my right bicep, so obviously i'm not against it, but i'm not necessarily for them. If your going to get one, seriously, PRAY ABOUT IT. If you don't ever feel "right" or "calm" in the sense of the word, then don't do it. Before you even go to your parents about it you need to ask your heavenly father if it's ok first.
I took a few months to pray on it before i did it. You most definitely should pray on it because i'm telling you, it's going to stay with you. I'm not going to share with you what reasoning i was given to allow myself to get a tattoo because i don't want you to read it and put it as an automatic OK. It's gotta be between you and God.
Now when i say i'm not necessarily for them, what i mean is that if your going to get one, it had better be something that will glorify God and his majesty. I believe that if your going to put a painting in God's house, it better be of him or something he did.
Ok part II
If you are going to get a tattoo, a few rules:
1. I do want to push this but i don't want to say it's a rule. If your going to get a tattoo make sure it glorifies God. If it wasn't something that "necessarily" glorifies God, then why are you getting one? Not a rule but just think about it.
2. Ok the real rules. Shop around! Don't go to Jake's Parlor because your buddy got one there and it looked pretty good. See for yourself what's out there. A shop that looks well kept probably IS WELL KEPT!!! Clean store, clean needles. (most of the time, which is why i stress that you check)
3. Portfolios. Every tattoo artist has a portfolio. Look at it. If you know what you want then find an artist who has done something similiar and see how well he's done with it. Also, never pick a design that's "on the wall". Those are stock images they get from order to help people decide what they want. The best thing to do it look at the porfolio, it will show how much experience, how good they are, and what type of designs they will probably excel at.
4. Never, never, ever, ever NEVER EVER NEVER NEVER EVER.....haggle prices between tattoo artists, in the same store, or at different stores. Tattoo artists have a respect for one another especially ones that work in the same shop. It's an insult to ask for a lower price from a different artist in the same store. They will get mad and tell you so accordingly. When one says a price, that's the price of the store. Take it or leave it. It is acceptable to ask why that high, especially if you've never gotten one before. If you tell them this is your first tattoo, most will gladly explain everything to you. Just ask.
5. Lastly, remember, it's permament. Don't be stupid. A potato on your ankle is not a good tattoo. Think about it and pray about. Make it mean something to you, especially because your going to spend alot of money on it.
Example: My friend phil had a friend who became a christian. his whole life he was told he could never amount to anything or be anyone. He was "useless". He becomes a christian and changes his life around and now does youth ministry on the side of being a car mechanic. he got a tattoo across his back in japanese kanji. The statement said "useless". Now why on earth would some one do that? his words exactly: "I put the past behind me" Think about that....

I figured i should share some advice since it seems so far i'm the only one with a tattoo. Not to mention, the one i've got on my arm i'm getting "redone" by adding some color to it. I'm also planning on a second one on the inside of my forearm, once again for personal reasons i won't share on a message board. PM me and maybe i'll tell you if you really want to know.
Good luck to everybody on the board looking at tattoos. May God light your path in this matter.
