How can I pray for any of you all?
Please pray that my family and their church(cult) will stop telling me how to think and live aside from what the Word of God tells me to do. Thanks and God bless you all...Dougie "Wretch"

I know how you feel Dougy. There was a Church like that up behind our backyard past some woods. I didn't go to the Church, but my family had a lot of problems with the preacher.
The preacher called the cops on me because I drew "Slayer" in the dirt. It wasn't even near their property, in fact it was on my property. They saw me drawing something in the dirt, and I after I left they came to see what it was, then they called the cops. The pigs came to my house, and I could hear my dad yelling at them, because they came to my house for something stupid like that. And also, we called the cops on the preacher a few days earlier because he came onto our property and dug up a tree that we bought and planted. But the pigs never came when we called them.
This was all about 6 years ago. And one of the many many reasons I hate cops and will never go to a Church. Last I heard, that preacher was on the run from the cops for some kind of fraud. That's how 99% of them are.
I don't pray, but I hope things get better for you Dougy. Peace.

Thanks and God bless you all...Dougie "Wretch" Yeah man, all you have to do is read the word, get to know their non-scriptural ideas well so that you can present your case when they talk to you about it. By the by, just what do they believe in that gives you trouble?

Thanks and God bless you all...Dougie "Wretch" Doug, Sounds like things are not going so good.. Im sorry to hear that man, I will do my best to remember to pray for you and your situation. I've noticed a bit of a pattern in my life, and I'm sure theres some on this board that can relate; it seems as though the more you try to focus on the Lord, the more Satan attacks and tries to hold you down. Ive been really down emotionally and spiritually lately.. and I know I'm not the only one... I was thinking, if there was anyone who wanted to participate, we could start like a prayer list.. like each day we all make time to pray for each other, I know we should all be doing this anyway, but I also know that it can be hard to remember and focus sometimes.. I was thinking a list or "prayer circle" whatever you want to call it, might be a good way to get organized and stay focused... how bout it?

Hey, if you don't believe me, that's fine, I really don't care. But I believe what I see. I see it everyday in person, I see it everyday on tv. My uncle is the only honest preacher I have met in my life.

Well as Christians, we are called to unity, the whole Body of Christ thing is important too.

To call the church a cult in many cases may very well be the truth, now don't get me wrong i am not anti church just anti exploitation of what the church is meant to be.
When you study the gospels you clearly see that jesus's main opposition came from the temple officials and leaders of that time commonly known as the scribes and pharisees, now if you think about it not much has changed as we see much the same things happening even to this day by these people who are meant to be the church's representation of godly direction for god's people.
In john 16 verse 1-3 we read:These things i have spoken to you, that you may be kept from stumbling. They will make you outcasts from the synagogue(church),but an hour is coming for everyone who kills you to think that he is offering service to god. And these things they will do,because they have not known the father or me.
Now of course in our western society no one is being physically killed for their faith,,not yet anyway but we are certainly being persecuted in other ways such as being snubbed if we do not fit in or frowned upon if we are not wealthy, good looking or for those who may be overweight to give a few examples and believe me if you think this may be a petty outlook on this topic consider that i personally know of many people who have felt this way as a result of the church and i even know of people seeking after god who were not christian aho have suffered these types of things being turned away from god possibly forever because of this.
Now as all believers are meant to be part of the body of christ which is what the church is then why is it some churches refuse or snub off parts of the body by doing this,,now it is not isolated as i have seen this happening inmost churches i have been part of in my time and it happens to such a degree you could forgive me for calling it epedemic.
Now i am not trying to bag the church in general here all i am saying is that we must be vigilant in these last days as jesus warned that not everyone who calls him lord shall be entering his kingdom so therefore we must scrutinise whichever church we are part of to be sure that we are part of the correct body of christ as many false christ's or churches are out there who will try to lead many astray which jesus also warned of.
I must say i have always been puzzled about the fact most preachers i have ever met or been part of their church always seem to have a flash house,,nice car and quite alot of money obviously which is accumulated as a result of the offering plate which is what pays their wages, now i understand they have to live but is living for god sheperding the flock living in mansions or ranches driving a mercedes whilst they drive down the bad parts of town snubbing their noses at the drunks or homeless people.
Now i know i am not perfect myself however in my experiences these types of people like you have mentioned that are part of these types of churches are very critical of just about everything and everyone and love to point the finger but do not realise when they do there is 3 pointing back at them and well are just plain self righteous and in some maybe many cases end up biting the dust and become found out like in the song miracle man by ozzy osbourne who was casting fire and brimstone at everyone including ozzy ended up being caught with a prostitute.
In conclusion i strongly believe that the church should be a family and the body of christ and when churches resort to the types of things we have all mentioned we really have to ask the question are they really from god?

Well, all churches are different too though. See in my experience ive been to alot of great churches and people have been really cool to me about the music i am into and the clothes i wear. Its not that I think all churches are good, but id say we shouldnt generalize and leave out all the good preachers who are doing the Lords work. In doing that we are being just as judgemental as them. Another thing about the church is that a congregation is made out of a bunch of individual people, not all of them beleive the exact same way, this type of generalization on our part is just as bad if not worse than the churches generalizations of metal heads.

I would rather not talk about my parents "church"...but please pray that their church will remember their first love, Christ, rather than the church's programes. Thanks and God bless you all!!! - Dougie Wretch

I am very fortunate to be a member of a very loving and accepting church. But I have seen a lot of what so many people do in the name of Christ, and understand you rposition (or what I know of it anyway) completely. I will pray for you.

I'm with Centurion. I think it's our job as Christians to contribute to the life of our church, and support them. I have never been to a church where I've been shunned because I'm a metal head. Everywhere has been very supportive for the most part. Sure, there's been people who don't understand, but they've never asked me to leave! Besides, we're all only human, so if we expect perfection from our churches, then we should look at ourselves first. So monster, I respect you're opinion, but for you say 99% of preachers are like what you described, then you're not exactly giving them a fair chance to start with! I've certainly never met a preacher like that.

It happens though.
But I find that when I'm not fellowshiping, wether it be Bible Study, Church, or just reading the Word with friends--I get distracted and tend to slide.

That's so true Mike - I find the same thing. I'll be feeling a bit off and wonder what's wrong, then realise I haven't fellowshipped properly for a while.

It's really been getting to me though...how me and christians in the western world have it so good. Our Brothers and Sisters in places like China are giving their lives and all we can do is whine about a lack of motivation.
