I've been very blessed by this band, these songs really stand out both musically and lyrically.
"This inner desperation is sort of religious
(apocalyptic)
No clammy hands can alter me
My God
Aleviate the many distressed
I firmly proclaim
Hand out the water to those who thirst"
Now that one (Revival), is simlpe and straight-forward enough, how apathy and spiritual decay will destroy your walk with Christ, and how we should be desperate to prevent that.
The next song (Opaque) is more complex.
"I know it is dark outside
But I bear not face it
alone
I compose a picture within a golden frame
-Black picturesqe
My eyes dance in a glassy stare
To the distant sound of Musical
Silence
But somehow they lower in a pool
-All wet and obscure
And I see this face
As a vivid picture of my very own self
And the eyes
They are watching me
And so am I
Inside out, whatever
I cannot grasp this
This duplicity
This lack of self-devotion
This classic cliche of a song."
I am baffled as to what this one means, but I have a hunch...
I suppose he's talking about the pointless-ness of feeding our egos, and the fact that humility is so alien to our corrupt human temperments. Maybe you could add that there's something in there about the fruits of such self-devotion. The imagery of pools and pictures is really haunting.
I could go on to long about this, but what d'ye think?
I wish I could find the English translation for the Norweigian songs.
