I've been listening to a fair bit of Dream Theater lately, a brilliant prog-metal band. Now they are not christian but in one song they seem to hit the nail right on the head... "Oh come let us adore Him abuse and then ignore Him" It can be found on A Change of Seasons a 23min long song, a reflection on a whole life. I notice this everytime i listen to it, as those few lines are actually sung to the "O come let us adore him" tune, and it made me wonder how much we actually do just that. Praise and adore Him at Christmas Easter and every Sunday, but then ignore or even abuse His love everyother day of the week. As God's love is unconditional and forgiving, how easy is it to become complacent with our lifestyles and give into temptation, knowing that all we need to do is pray for forgiveness and it will be recieved. Just starting uni this year I am finding this to be an issue, as there are a whole new lot of temptation to indulge in.... umm i mean resist Almost all of Dream Theater's songs are thought provoking, and i'll be very disapointed if they start to include filler into their albums. Check out "In The Name of God" and "Sacrificed Sons" as well if you get the time.... as I'm supposed to be writting up an assignment now, I'll leave it till later to talk about them

Ironguardian, that is awesome!!! I (hangs his head in shame) haven't really read the lyrics to ACoS yet... I've had the album for about 2 years now, but I mostly just listen and enjoy! (Unusual for me, normally I love going thru the lyrics line by line)! It is so true though... Have a great time studying... Hope you do well!

They have some great songs about social issues/world events. I think their lyrics have actually improved over the years. Certainly thought-provoking, IG -I look forward to dissecting them more in future with you!

Actually, although not technically a christian band, the members are as follows:
James LaBrie (Vox) - Christian, although I believe his current status is something along the line of deism. John Petrucci (guitar) - Catholic Mike Portnoy (drums) - Jewish (non-practicing) Jordan Rudess (keys) - ditto John Myung (bass) - Christian, very much so, apparently
So, there ya go. Can't remember exactly who wrote the lyrics to that part of ACoS (think it was Portnoy, though), but several of their other songs seem to reflect the beliefs of whomever wrote the lyrics.
A good example of this is I Walk Beside you from Octavarium. Written by Petrucci, the lyrics seem (to me, anyway) of God's love for each person as an individual, and saying that no matter what, He will always be there for us. I could be wrong, but that's what I got out of it at least.

Yeah, I Walk Beside You is beautiful. The Glass Prison is another good one

Lots of Petrucci's lyrics seem to have spiritual angles. I'm tired right now, but will find some xamples on the weekend to share here!
