Impending Doom-Nailed.Dead.Risen
Released-2007
Label-Facedown Records
Stye-Death Metal/Grindcore
I really enjoyed Impending Doom's demo CD The Sin and Doom of Godless Men but found the production quality lacking. Naturally I became very excited when I discovered the band had signed with Facedown Records and was working on a full length album. I got this at Best Buy the day it came out and needless to say I was very pleased. Ok wow, the album opens up with a man praying to Christ for salvation and reassurance. After that fades out I am treated to thirty minutes of brutal death metal/grindcore. Were talking fast blasting and brutal guitars. No melodic riffs, no acoustic interludes, no nothing just straight brutality. The drumming is amazingly fast and fits the style perfectly. Tons of great blast beats and a blazing double bass pedal. Vocals are as great as you can imagine, ultra guttural screams and growls, although much of the pig squealing from the demo is cut out, it still sounds really good almost completely indecipherable. And what are they growling about you ask? Well Jesus Christ of course and His good news to the world. Impending Doom is one of the most outspoken American Christian bands I have heard come into popularity in the past couple of years. Its refreshing. Normally I complain about an album that is only 30 minutes long but in this case I think it fits the style considering how fast some of the songs are. Overall this is a great chunk of brutality and is widely available and with such great lyrics its a great representation of Christian death metal.
Standout Songs: Nailed. Dead. Risen, Condemned, Feeding the Decomposing, and Silence the Oppressors.
