Technically, "Drop C Tuning" is standard guitar tuning, with the low E tuned to C, (C A D G B E)
Drop D, tuned down one whole step, is (C G C F A D) This is commonly referred to as "Drop C"

I think I'll stick to the common, yet incorrect, definition of drop C... makes my life easy.
Plus, I copped the name from an article written by Tony Rombola of Godsmack in a magazine somewhere.

hehe.. I don't even like Godsmack much, but Guitar World gave him a column, which is where I copped it from....
actually I even think that there is a "Drop-B" tuning (BADGBE) used in a few metal songs out there...

tony doesn't make a musicians life easier since he plays rock and not metal and people mistake Godsmack for being a metal band:).

Also Sound Garden used it on Rusty Cage....and Zakk Wylde has used it in several of his bands....I'm a fan of this tuning cause it allows you to have some heavy parts as well as keep mostly melodic playing.

A friends band down here I knew they tuned to G Standard....cause they were like Korn uses A standard we HAVE TO BE MORE BREWTAL THAN KORN. I've got some audio files from them and they have this song where they just chug away on that open G chord *SOOO HEAVY*

one of the songs on Crimson Thorn's album Purification is in A and I think it is misguided Mercy but don't quote me on it just yet.
