When it comes to using effects, what's your personal preference?
I own a distortion pedal, Flanger and a Chorus pedal, but I rarely use them. I also own a Digitech GNX3, but again, rarely use it.
For distortion, especially, if used, I tend to just channel switch the amp rather than use the pedal itself.
Plus, I HATE reverb... It's ok to have a little bit, but a lot of people that I know tend to saturate it, and to me it sounds horrible...

Hmm, Elais gave me an old distortion pedal. I just need to solder the wires to the battery clip. Eventually I'll try and get myself a new one, but I'm not sure where to start.

Hmm, Elais gave me an old distortion pedal. I just need to solder the wires to the battery clip. Eventually I'll try and get myself a new one, but I'm not sure where to start. may as well get a Boss distortion pedal, they' should be around $75.00 provided you can come up with it otherwise, as a last resort, I could ship my old Boss distortion/overdrive pedal [this thing is close to 18 years old] is across the pond to you and it's up to you to find an adapter for it.....because the screw is bent on the battery compartment. I would just have to find it first. NOW TO MY EFFECTS...........I use Chorus and lots of it to open up as well as thicken up my sound, then I use compression, I use some much compression my signal is nice and flat with very little peaking in it at all, then i use such a small amount of reverb i don't even know why or even that it's there.
All of my effects are in my pedalboard processor which is an old ZOOM gfx-8. for compression I run through my behringer Modulizer pro but I mainly use it for speaker cab simulation. When I compress my signal it's generally during recording.

All my effects are on my GNX4. Same assortment as on a GNX3 and a few added extras.
My most used effects are, Compression, Noise gate, delay and reverb sometimes. I can run up to something like 11 at once but have never found a need to. Recently I've been trying to work with delay to get some of that U2/Edge effect where the delay actually works to create arpeggios in the guitar part. Hard to do though, and without tap tempo it's about impossible live.

When I play guitar, I mostly stick to distortion, wah-wah, chorus, flanger, and and equalizer for lead parts.
My approach to this setup is based around these ideas: 1. I'm usually the only guitarist, but when I'm not, I like to step forward while soloing. (hence the EQ) 2. I'm heavily influenced by grunge, and classic thrash.

I use chorus with the rate set at 0, depth all the way up, pre-delay at 0 and the mix all the way up....fattens up my sound plus it works great if you're looking for a boost during a solo and don't want any unnecessary over equalization

as much as i like effects i think they break your signal down to much to like a 10th of what it should be i have a few effects pedals mainly boss ones but for Individual i only use a pedal which is a blackstar filth with its own tube inside God bless you all James

Have you ever tried a sonic maximize jmaxwell. It will do wonders for your sound. BBE makes a pretty good inexpensive model.

I think so, and they aren't that expensive. $100 (US) will buy a stompbox BBE sonic maximizer, rackmount models start at about $180 or so.

I use a Boss GT 8 Processor, I tend to not use the preamps at ALL. I also have a Vox old school Wah (reminiscent of the Wah sound Clapton had back in the day). a basic Analogue delay for when I want a very crackly almost tape style delay. I also have a Holy Grail Reverb which i use for getting very pink floydish style sounds, a Boss Metal Zone (only for really MMPH sections I mostly use my amps Gain for distortion), and I've got a Digitech RP200 pedal but the foot switch doesn't work anymore so I only use it for the Yaya effect sometimes.
